Hi Guys, I have recently noticed my male dwarf gourami is bloated in the stomach area. He is acting normal as ever, swimming around fine, chasing fish, feeding from top, middle and bottom and showing no other signs of illness apart from a bloated stomach area.

I gave him peas last night and no change this morning, but I dont know how long it takes to sort them out, if it does. I dont really think he is ill, just thought I would check with the experts.

He is in a Rekord 96 with 3x Ottos, 2x Blue Ram and 1x Bristlenose.

Here is an image of my water readings too, they seem perfect. 0,0 and 0

ph is just over 6. Thanks for any help

I'm not sure if I've had the same problem as you or not but here goes

I have a black widow tetra that is constanly bloated, at first I thought it was dropsy but he has no pine cone effect on his bloated area. He has had it for about a year and there is nothing wrong with him, he is completley fine. He swims about like crazy and eats as much as he can which I think is what he's done, he just eats a lot. I'm not sure but I think this is might what have happened to your gourami. Take another good look at him, swimming patterns and eating behaivour but I think he will be ok.

Hope this Helps

Sam

how'd you manage to get zero nitrates?! My tap water has at least 25ppm! The peas will take a little while to work, try to feed as little as possible to help, if the peas havent worked after a few days it might be something other than some sort of constipation

i dont know how i have 0 nitrates. not a bad thing is it?

the bloatedness has gone down over the last day or so. seems to be fine. probably me being silly.

thanks guys.

Do you have a tap nitrate reading of 0 if so your'e very lucky.
They can blow up with constipation that why it important to feed peas twice a week.
Frozen daphnia is good as it helps the fish digest its food.

Ah excellent, I will get some frozen daphnia tonight. I have fed them peas twice now, looking better. Still a bit of bloatedness, one of the Otto's has a bloated stomach now, but again it is going down.

Thanks a lot for your help. and yeah i am lucky, tap water is free of nitrates.

You should all move to macclesfield hahaha quality tap water.
