Hello all.

I have searched the forum for the answer to this question but I cannot find the FULL answer.

My female dwarf neon blue has a very swolen stomach.
She is sitting on the bottom of the tank all of the time and
her faeces are long and white.

I believe that she is constipated but my problem is....

She will not eat!....Anything. I cannot get her to eat shelled peas, daphnia or anything else.

Is there some other cause or solution to this problem?

The tank is quite heavy planted all tank parmas are within normal levels and all other fish seem fine.

Any clues on how I can play this before I lose her?

I'm not an expert on this, but I have read that white poo can indicate a bacterial infection. You might want to post on the emergencies section. I am sure someone will be able to give you some advice. Good luck.

Actualy it indicates an internal parasite (stringy white poo) so you'll want to find a good anti-internal parasite med. However, I should warn you that if she is not eating, she may not last long. It might be a good idea to tempt her with some live foods such as brine shrimp or blood worms or at least try the frozen equivalents. A very sick gourami will rarely take peas and none of mine like daphnia half as much as brine shrimp or live blood worms so I'm not surprised you had no success with these.

Thank you for your advice.

I have started treatment for internal bacteria and she seems to be perking up.
She has started to eat now so I have been giving her blood worm and brine shrimp.

She is still not 100% as she still sits on the bottom but eating is a vast improvement.

She is a relative newcomer to the tank and as yet I have not had any babies from her. So I am hoping she pulls through okay so I can get some neon blue babies rather than the neon, common dwarf cross breeds I have been getting.

Thanks again for your help.

I wonder how we would have managed before the internet and Forums?

Books I guess! Yaaaaaawwwwn! :D
