Hi,

For the past day or so, i have noticed that one (of 2) male black molly seems very bloated. This particular molly has been prone to problems ever since i got him such as finrot and whitespot while i've had no problems at all from any of the other fish. I can't really tell if his scales are protruding suggesting it could be dropsy because of his matt colouring. It doesn't seem to be bothering him too much and he is still swimming (even though he looks like he is wobbling), interactiving with the other fish and eating well. I carry out twice weekly 15-25% water changes. I also checked my water today because of his illness and ammonia, nitrates, ph and nitrites all normal. Am I assuming correctly, and it may be dropsy or is there any other ideas what it may be?

Dropsy is when the scales stick out, what does it look like when the fish goes to the toilet, try some shelled peas and frozen daphnia on the fish, it could be constipation, can the fish maintain it's balance in the water.

Don't feed him for a day, and if by the next day the bloatedness aint gone down then remove him to a tank on his own (with 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt per 5 gallons) and fast him for another 24 hours. it could be digestion trouble, one of my mollies had the same thing, i just didn't feed him for 48 hours and he was fine after that.

Thank you for your comments. I will fast them for a day or so and see how he goes. Yeah, he seems to be keepig his balance in the water.

Good luck.
