I have a plec that I think may be blind, or at least have some trouble seeing. Whenever I feed the rest of the fish with flakes he feels the commotion and starts swimming around the bottom waiting for his pellet to be dropped. After I drop it, it takes him a while to find it...he'll be right near the pellet completely facing it and he'll pass it up until he comes right up on it, this is how I know there's something wrong with his sight.
Is this normal? Should I be doing something special? I just feel really bad for him
A lot of plecs have very poor eye sight as many are primarily nocturnal fish. It can take a while in comparison to other fish for them to sense their food in the tank, are his eyes cloudy, swollen or sore looking at all etc? Otherwise, i'd say it was normal. What type of plec is he and what are you feeding him and how often ?
Thanks for the reply! His eyes look perfect which is why I was so puzzled. I *think* its a regular sailfin plec and I feed him one pellet per day. He's only about 4 1/2 inches right now.
