Blind Fish

i got given a blind oscar but i dont know what i can do for him as he cant really see his food and he drags himself along the bottom as anybody got any ideas ,, thanks

i once heard of a fish who was blind, but the owner also had another friend fish, who actually guided it around and showed it where the food was and everything, they lived happily everafter... i'm not sure if this helps, as i'm not sure if a friendship can just be created between two fish, but i can't think of anything else... sorry

i dont want to kill him as i know he is happy he just cant see witch i know its anoying for him ,, what ive done now is put him in a smaller tank so he can get used to the size ,, hes only young about 4 inch so hopefully he can find where the food is ,, i hate to see a fish suffer but i have a feeling that he will be ok if he just had some tlc ,, any more advice please get back to me ,thanks

Fish usually rely on smell as much as sight, when in the smaller tank use a turkey baster or so to drop the food right in front of him. Do this at the same time every night. He should soon get used to being fed at that time, and know that the food will appear in front of him. There's no reason why he shouldn't be able to live a happy life =)

Yeah there is no reason why he shouldn't be ok. I have had blind fish in the past where they have just been born that way. Their other senses are so good that you can hardly tell that they are blind. I had a neon tetra that had cataracts so he must of had impaired vision but he lived longer than the rest of his shoal the beast! He was called Roger and I miss him dearly. He was quite that character! lol

Don't worry just take good care of him

thanks every 1 ,, i will keep u all posted ,i am not giving up on this little guy ,,i have a strong feeling that he will be ok ,,,,,
