I just got a box of plants in. I have read before about people dipping the plants in a bleach solution before adding them to their tank. I think this is to prevent transferring any diseases and snails to the new tank. Does anyone know exactly how to do this? Is it safe for all plants?
Here's the plants I received:
Hornwort
Riccia
Red Root floaters
Duck weed
anacharis
penny wort
water sprite
Guppy grass

Thanks! :)

i always bleach dip my plats so i dont get snails mainly

this is how i do it

1) make a solution of 1:21 (bleach:water)
2) make another solution with 3x the recommended amout of chlorine remover
3) dip plants into solution 1 for 25 seconds
4) rinse plants under running water ( i normally do this in the bath due to space and the shower head makes it easier)
5) put them into solution 2.
6) while leaving plants in sloution 2 empty soloution 1 (with the bleach in) and rinse bucket well, add water with 3x the chlorine remover (same as solution 2)
7) rinse under the tap/hose again and place into solution 6
8 ) place into tank and admire your plants

this is how i do it. i havent lost a plant yet from doing so and my tank is snail free (i bought a load form pets@home which is guaranteed to have snails in them.

Two different places. I got a bunch of plants from an add in the for sale section here and I got a bunch from an aquabid auction that I won.

Thanks, chr15_8, I'll try that out with my plants :)
