Hi All,

I have 2 problems, I'll start with the most urgent.

My tank seems to have developed an algae problem where by it develops a blanked of green slimey alage coovering pretty much the whole of the bottom of the tank within a week of it being cleaned. It has been getting worse the last few weeks.

The tank details are 2 foot tall (130L) with 6 Bounes aires tetras, 6 diamond tetra, 8 black phantom tetras, 1 otto and 1 royal plec. The tank has been set up for about 3 1/2 months. It has some live planting. Photoperiod is about 14 hours. The tank has the standard lighting.

What are the possible causes? I think I'll try reducing the photoperiod but has anyone got any other suggestions? It is rather unsightly.

The other problem I have got is that I will soon, (in about a month) be moving house. I'm not going far (abbout 500yrds!) but was wondering wether the are any articles giving advice on how to manage the move?

Thanks in advance

Ian

hiya
for the algea problem try reducing the amount of time you have the light on, try around 8 hours a day
as for moving have you got any sort of bucket/tub with a lid that you could put your fish in ?? with tank water
if so put fish in there with the filter to keep it wet, move to your new house plug filter & heater in while they are in the fish bucket & sort your tank out.
as long as you keep the filter media wet it should be ok & the sooner you get it running wether in the fish bucket or the tank with the fish in it should be fine, just keep an eye on levels to make sure its not going through a mini cycle.
hope that made sense lol :D :D :D

That slimey algae isn't actually an algae: it's BGA, also known as Cyanobacteria. Here's a link that will better explain what it is to you and treatments. (Scroll down to BGA, but it would be helpful if you read the whole thing).

HTH

Oh goorrddd, what shall I do to control this menace??
