Hi, I bought 6 Black teras today but after checking them google they don't seem the same as mine.

Mine are silver with black stripe entire length of body, are there different black tetras?

thank you.

Common names are invariably national, often "local" and frequently made up on the spot by the shop when they have no idea what they are.

The description you give brings Hyphessobrycon scholzei to mind. A once common little tetra but not seen as often these days. These are often known as "Black Line Tetras".

Sounds just like my black neon tetra 'Hyphessobrycon herbertaxelrodi' :D

This species has a bright highlight above the black stripe, (hence the "Neon" element of the common name). Hyphessobrycon scholzei doesn't.

sounds like a black neon thay make a nice change from the normal neons and thay will shoal together (mine do anyway)

what you may have of been looking at are black skirt tetras as known as black widow tetras
