Has anyone used black sand flourite before? (link)
I initially bought some API First Layer Laterite, but I don't really like the stuff. It's pretty big and red, and I had it mixed with some pretty fine gravel and it just didn't look right to me, so I spent a few hours and separated it all out.
So then I stumbled upon the black sand fluorite, and was wondering if anyone had any opinions on this. Since it's such a fine sand, would it be better to use it alone or should I still mix it with my fine gravel (1-2mm) that I like so much. Will the flourite settle to the bottom of the substrate? Or should I add the sand laterite as a base layer and then my fine gravel on top, so that the roots can grow down into the laterite?
Any opinions would be appreciated, the faster the better. My new betta is on the way and I need to get his home finished before he arrives.
