Hey guys.

Is it normal for a black red tailed shark to go crazy sometimes and chase my male bolivian ram all over the tank?

Just a bit concerned as i really like my 2 x ram and wondered if it posed any danger. ty

Hi
What is the tanksize?

RTB sharks like to patrol a pretty large territory compared to their size and therefore require an absolute minimum of a 50G so they can rule over a sufficient territory but still allow for space for other fish to retreat to.

In smaller tanks RTBs can declare the whole tank as their territory and other fish are relentlessly chased

My tank is only 110 litre. After what you said about needing pretty much double the size i have, do you think its a good idea if i return the shark to lfs?

ty for your reply

If the shark has starting to act territorial then it will only get worse as it grows,

I would have to agree that if you aren't planning to upgrade in the near future then yes it would be better to rehome the shark, rather than risk losing other fish to stress

RTBS fish can get pretty aggressive. They can get 7 inches or so so they need a minimum of 38 inches.

ijust got rid of mine because he starting to get to aggressive he was 4inches long in a 150ltr malawi cichlid tank, they do get very aggressive as they grow, remember they are a SHARK
