I have a 14 gallon tank. I always have trouble with plants, the leaves always get covered with a black algae under lighting you can see red hair. What kind of algae is that? What can I do? for a week now I use CO2 by Hagen. I have 24 W lighting.

Thank you

Sounds like some form of brush algae! Check this Link and see if you can identify it.

Good luck!

I think I have red algae what's the best method get rid of it? Is it safe to use some kind of medication?

Good luck, I have that too. I hate it. I think the only chemical mentioned for it is copper, but if you have any inverts copper will kill them. I have shrimp and snails so it's out of the question for me. I'm looking into some snails that are supposed to like to eat it and if you can find Siamese (not chinese) algae eaters they are supposed to like it. They're pretty hard to find though.
