i was wondering if i could keep about 7/8 black neon tetras in a 10 gallon via-aqua tank? :fun: i really like them and want to make a black sinister look to the tank with a black substrate and a 3D background.....as u can see from my signiture and avatar i like black neons lol

Hi,

UK gallons are smaller than US gallons so it would be pushing it a bit to have the fish you want in your sig, the tetras and pygmy corys. Maybe 6 tetras and 4 corys would be better, but you'd have to keep a good maintenance schedule on the tank. I got 6 black neons a couple of years ago and they've lost the stripe as they've got older and fatter, well its there but not as luminous as it was. They look a bit boring now compared to my other tetras.

mmm.. wud cardinals keep there colours more..i knwo there not suitable for wen its fisrst up and running but wen its a couple of months old will they b better?
cud u reccommend a good colourful tetra that keeps its colours?

Hi,

Cardinals keep their colour, i have some older than the black neons and they look great, harlequin rasboras are nice too, they get brighter as they get bigger, glowlight tetras also keep their colour. If you want the sinister effect though maybe some back skirt tetras though they are a bit more nippy than most tetras they would be fine with pygmy corys.

Have you already got the tank? If you haven't bought it yet maybe think about getting a 20 gallon then you could get more fish, rummynoses are nice but they are fast swimmers and need bigger than 10 gallons. If you got the bigger tank you have a bigger variety of corys to choose from and you could get some otos.

US gallons are smaller than UK gallons - Just an example, 1 US gallon would be equivelent to 10litres whereas 1 UK gallon would be equivelent to 40litres :)

10 gallon [UK] = 12.009 499 204 gallon [US, liquid]

Surefire way to work out your tank volume :

length (centimeters) x width (centimeters) x height (centimeters) = volume (cubic centimeters) = volume (milliliter)

for example :

10cm x 5cm x 2cm = 100 cubic centimeters = 100ml/0.1liters

*** Emma you wouldn't happen to be going to a certain rugby match on sunday would you :D
