Hi, my black neon tetras are turning red in the face and belly. 1 of them has gone missing, I presume he's dead and been eaten.

They seem active as usual and are eating still. The one in the photo doesn't school with the others so much anymore.

don't know how to put the pic on here, sorry

can you tell us a bit more about the tank?

tank size, stocking, temperature, pH, test recordings for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate also your tank maintenance schedule will be helpfull. also apart from this redening on the tetras belly and head is there any other things that are not normal like flashing, are the other fish in the tank ok?

240 litres
7 guppies, 7 black neon tetras (was 8), 2 red honey gouramis, 2 bolivian rams and 2 otos
temp 26-27C
ph is about 7.8
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate about 40, but hard to get down as the tap water is about 20
25% water change most weeks

Not really noticed anything else, they seem normal but red. The other fish seem ok, not noticed anything strange. Last additions to the tank were the gouramis and rams at the start of july, and just before that I put in a load of new plants

redening can be due to ammonia but if you are at 0 then it cant be that..... sorry mate cant think of anything else unless its some kind of internal parasite or something!
