I am new, very new to fish.
I just got a Black Molly and she/he (don't know) just keeps swimming on top of the tank.
Is that normal?

Has anybody had problems like this before?

If she/he is anything like my mollies she/he will be looking for food.

Seems natural to me, all my mollies are usually at the top of the tank except just before feeding time, they can't seem to wait and are at the bottom looking for leftovers! :thumbs:

Hi itembazaar :D

Welcome to the forum. :hi:

Whenever I see a newcomer who is very new to fishkeeping, I suggest they read this article to be sure they understand how to cycle a tank:

If this is new to you, just post your questions in the Beginners section and you will get all the help you need to get your tank off to a great start. :thumbs:

I recently started working in my lfs for college work experience and ALL the mollies there swim at the top of the tank. I think they like to swim against the current of the water outlet - lol maybe they think they are getting somewhere like a hamster in a wheel. :p

if it can not get to the bottom and can only stay at the top and not able to keep balance, then dont think it swimming bladder pro + buy the medicine all it is, is constaspation it happens when they eat flakes at the top and take in air.
cure: switch of light and do not feed for a few days and then check and carry on until sorted.p.s it is better if you put it in a spare tank so not to starve the others , also check it every day.this may not be the problem but you might need it in future.try feeding them frozen foods which you take out freezer over night and feed in morning and the food sinks.

:hi: mollies and most live bearers are top dwellers. And you said that you dont know the sex, theres a fin near the tail, it it folds in and to a point then its a male, if its like a regular fin, its a female.

i have mollys (lyratail) black and white and they are constantly eating should i keep feeding them more til they eat less ? i feed the 3 times a day about a table spoon for 6 of then there about this long {------------------------------}

umm ICY a tablespoon for 6 fish 3 times a day is wayyy tooo much!! you should feed them a pinch twice a day not even half as much as you are, that will pollute the tank and overfeed them, they can die from swimbladder.
