I got 5 female black mollies for my livebearer tank yesterday and they have been hanging out at the top the whole time. I have a black background and you can't even see them half the time. Every now and then one might venture out into the cabomba forest or something but they're very very jumpy and rarely leave the top.

These fish don't hang out at the very top like this 24/7 do they? My hopes were that they would inhabit most levels of the tank. I've had these before but I was little and can't quite remember but I thought they liked most levels.

These are the only ones doing this and the tank is a well planted 55 gallon that has plenty of swimming space and oxygen...with good water parameters.

If water quality is good, then can't think what it could be are the gill red and inflamed.

No they look as healthy as can be. Everytime I come to the tank after not having been around it for a while a couple of them are swimming at the lower levels pecking algae off of something or whatever...but when I walk over there....even slowly....they almost jump out of the tank and then all of them panic.

Maybe its just that they need to settle in.....its just that I have never had fish that were this jumpy before......ever. :dunno:

Let them settle in if they are new fish, and just keep a close eye on them, good luck.

I think they are coming around now. They don't panic when I come up to the tank now, and one of them even comes to greet me. They're also coming down from the top so much....though it seems this is going to be a slow process.

Edited because I can't spell.

Sounds like they were stressed with the move to a new enviroment..
