ok, i just got my khuli loach 2 days ago, and he never comes out of hiding even at night..could this be a sign i need to get him a buddy, or is he just still getting used to the new tank? thanks
He needs some more buddies to gain confidence. Six is a good number.
I have had my black kuhlis in a couple of tanks. In my 240 litre tank they just completely disappeared. In my 95 litre which is on a worktop and can be seen from all around they are always coming out. Spiralling round the glass. You may well hardly ever see them in a big tank.
The more khulies you have the more confident they will be. Also it sounds silly but the more hiding places you provide them the more they will come out. They are a shy fish but if you add a few more you should see them now and again, mine have phases of swimming all night for weeks on end then you wont see them for a week or two. If you want to see your khulies the best time to do it is at night with your tank light off and a dim light so you can just about see your fish.(my dim light is the tv). Ive never saw a more amusing fish than a khulie when it decides it wants a good swim. Also they love bloodworm and cucumber.
