Hi There!

I have a black gold fish that is not doing too well it seems. He is pooping a long, clear, with bubbles in it poop. (don't know how else to describe it). Is that a bacterial infection? I have heard of it, but don't know what it means.

Thanks in advance for anyone helping. The PH is 7.5, but I don't know nitrate, nitrite, etc. It is in a 20 gallon tank at 80 degrees, I have two filters, one carbon, one under gravel.

Do you keep any other fish with the goldfish if so please state how many and which kind.
What do you normally feed him.
Does he look bloated or thin.
I would suggest you buy some liquids test kits in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate.

I have 2 black goldfish, 4 goldfish, 4 platies, 2 male guppies, 2 dwarf frogs, 2 catfish and 2 irridescent sharks (I know). Tank is two years old.

I need a test kit, will get one. I have live plants in there as well.

He seems okay a good part of the time, but the last few days, he doesn't seem right to me. I watch my fish everyday. I know their personalities. He is a little copperish, but I read that could be caused from the higher temperature that I keep it at. He doesn't look bloated, but does seem to have a little difficulty staying down.

Thanks!

That tanks severely overstocked.
Shouldn't really keep tropcial fish with coldwater fish because of the temp.
The first goldfish alone needs 20 gallons then 10 gallons for every other one added, As there massive waste producers.
Plus they need double the filter size to the tank.
I would get your water tested at the lfs and tell them to write the readings down for you.

It sounds like swim bladder to me maybe trapped air.
I would feed him some peas.
Cook peas for a few minutes, let cool down and pop out of shell, mush into small peices and add to the tank.

Swim bladder can be caused by many things.
Bad water quality.
Bad diet.
Deformed swim bladder.
Damaged swim bladder due to injury.
Bacterial.

Id sharks grow massive and shouldn't be kept in that size tank.
You need to rehome all the goldfish and sharks.

Thanks, I actually know that about the sharks, unfortunately, my kids keep getting fish from daddy ( we are divorced) so I have gotten them in pairs. I am already working on moving the goldfish and sharks (I am cycling a second tank and have called a couple of petshops about the sharks, no one will take them, they are beautiful, well behaved, and all get along great - I know that isn't the point. I will do the pea thing.

Thanks Again!

Pets shops shouldn't be selling them id sharks as they grow obsolutely massive, most of them never make it bless them.
