Hi all,
I've been thinking about getting a black ghost knife; my LFS has them and they seem like great fish. Right now i only have a 20 gal. community tank which really doesn't have the room for one (It's awfully full, not to mention I don't want to lose my guppies :/ ). In the future I'll upgrade to a 50 gal. which should be able to house a small one for quite a while. I've done a bit of research, but i still have a couple of questions so I'll know what I'm getting into.

I've read about the BGK's eating guppies and other small fish, especially if they're not fed very frequently. Would they also try to eat an african dwarf frog? It seems like they're small enough to fit in the BGK's mouth, but I'm not sure If there's still a danger. I'd hate to lose my frog. :(

Also, how long do I have before the BGK starts to get large and possibly agressive? The ones at my LFS are pretty small; they're around 3 inches. What kind of size can i expect in a year or three?

Due to the BGK's electrical field, would there be any trouble having it near computers or other electrical appliances? Is there a way to prevent such interference without moving the tank or appliances?

I think that's all I have for now. I'd really appreciate any information you have for me, and I look forward to being a proud BGK owner! :)

I dont think it will attack a frog and electric feilds wont bother him at all. In about 3 years time it will grow about 2" if that, they are very slow growers but live for upto 50 years i read, they also hit about the 50cm mark but in a 50g this should be ok because as they get older i have noticed they get lazy and just like to hide in there pipes.

hi i juz wanted to say that i dont think that all BGK grow slowly because i have had mine for about 4 months and he has more than doubled in size and he comes out alot during the day, he is wierd but awesome lol my frends dislike him because they reckon hes stupid coz he swims backwards and upside down alot lol
make sure you feed him blood worms coz they will not always eat flakes, and eventually you may be able to hand feed him. frozen blood worms are fine. dont forget to have somewhere for it to hide and they dont like really aggresive fish that will pick on them, coz if the ghost knife fights back he is likely to kill the other fish.a 50 gal tank should be fine
hope this helps
