Suffering a bit from Black Brush Algae. My lights are only on for 6 hours, tank is lightly planted, with no CO2.

Had a read on James' Planted Aquariums, as linked from the PARC, which suggested reducing water changes, due to the levels of CO2 dissolved in the water.

No, obviously, I'm all for less work, but how do you square that with the need to keep water quality decent for one's fish?

It's assuming that the tank has decent filtration and good plant biomass.
You can get some low tech tanks that recieve maybe 2 water changes a year. The method works if applied correctly.
Has the BBA just suddenly come about?
You could keep the water changes up but leave the water to stand for 24hours before using it for a water change. CO2 should gas off during this time (especially if you run an airstone in the same bucket). Carry out the water changes after the photoperiod.
Always good to manually remove the algae as well.
