I'm no expert in this matter but i found a easy way to get rid of Black Brush Algae, that happens to be the hardest algae to get rid of because you cant manually remove it without damaging the plants.
I'm sure you read this before but noone says it can be this effective: Malaysian Trumpet Snail or MTS. In both of my tanks they strip clean Black Brush Algae of any surface including live plants, all of my live, plastic and silk plants look as they just been purchased from LFS.
I get some MTS for my 10Gal shrimp/Betta tank with sand substrate so they can shift the sand and prevent ammonia packets and seen how they clean Black Brush Algae i moved them to my 29 gal planted tank. Within a month it so clean that i have to dose extra fertilizer and keep the lights for longer just to have SOME algae for my ottos and mollies.
Hope this helps.
