Black Bearded Algae

I have a small outbreak of this algae on one of my plants and starting on a piece of my driftwood.
Hows is this caused and how is it removed??
I have bought some 'interpet anti hair algae' but have not used it yet as I have heard that is no good.

i personally wouldn't use chemicals on algae, getting to the root problem is best. BBA is caused by fluctuations/low C02 in the water.

give us a few stats on the tank, what is the lighting, what ferts and what/if any C02?
