In my tank I have some balck algae growing on a small decorative boat. Its not growing anywhere else. Does anyone know what type of algae this is, what could have caused it, and how I can get rid of it? Also some of the fish are picking at it or eating it.

That's weird, never heard of black algae. Could it be fungus? If I were you, I would get the boat out right away!

OMG, so sorry to hear that

black algae is the hardest form to erradicate, the only surefireway is to use hydrogen peroxide, wich is of course mortal to fish and inverts.

Flying foxes are said to like this form of algea other than that the best you can do is manually remove, as and when you see it sprout up.
