I've had a problem with black beard/brush (whichever is the shorter one) algae for a while now. It started when I slacked on tank maintainence and left the light on too long. I have had my light off for weeks now and have started doing small water changes every day. It doesn't seem to be growing anymore but its not going away.

I have a 10g tank with fake plants. The algae is on plants, rocks, and tubing. I read about using excel to get rid of it, but I don't know if this is possible in a tank with fake plants. I also read a SAE is something to consider.

I need some major advice please!

have you cut back on feedings as well? your tank is very heavily stocked; a heavily stocked tank with heavy feedings, good lighting and no plants is a perfect environment for algae to take over.

there is no algae eater suited for a 10g aquarium that will eat that kind of algae. that is, nothing other than snails.

The Excel flourish method would be fine for a tank with no plants...at least you wouldn't need to worry about killing your plants. I've never used it before though so if you decide to go with it then read up lots first.

Otherwise the only way you are going to get rid of the BBA is to manually remove it.

Yes, I cut back on my feedings as well as increased cleaning. I will read more about the Excel too.
