I was just given a piece of driftwood with an anubiAs growing on it but it's covered in thick black algae. It's currently in my quarentine tank. I looked at the pinned articles and they are basically about treating a whole tank with algae. I just have this one piece. Is there a treatment that will get rid of it quickly? Like some kind of dip or water adative that I could use. I'd rather not scrap the plants if at all possible. My regular tank has co2 but I don't want to risk putting the anubis into my main tank in it's current condition. And co2 is not really an option for the quarentine tank. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

you could try a bleach dip,mix
bleach : water in 1:19parts

it could damage the plant though, and leave it suceptible to algae attacks.
The other option is to strip the leaves off it.

if your careful, you can just scrub the algae off with a pan scourer, that's what i do!

I scrubed it a little bit under the sink and picked what I could off. If I put it in my main tank while it still has a bit of algae on it would it spread to everything else? How likely would it be that the plant lives if I strip all the leaves off?

yes, the spores will spread ot the rest of the tank. Heavy pruning produces new growth, some people use this so the leaves dont melt i nthe aquarium, more so on crypts but it is possible with any plant.
