Workington has a show and general auction later this year but that to far for me to travel. But if these show and auctions are good news if your looking for unusualy fish.

I'm always after weird ones :) I could get to the show but then couldn't buy anything, or I could buy something but not get there lol! Will have to watch for others closer to me, or later on after I get paid :)

Too bad I'm in California. I think I'll look up fish auctions in my area. I'm curious just to see how these work and the social aspects of it.

Have u seen any sort of auctions on TV, like cars and old junk and stuff..... well it's just the same but not as toffy noised and it's a good reason for us hobbiests to all meet to and have a drink...... well thats what i do.

how was it?

It was good. Very friendly, very pleasant. Some amazing bargains to be had- wild guppies and ameca splendens for a pound a bag. The highest prices paiud were probably in the region of 13 pounds, but then you are talking very nice fish. Lots of goodeids, quite a few brachyraphis, and some amazingly beautiful halfbeaks. I picked up some little neoheterandrias and a bag of merry widows, was outbid on the fairweatheri.

wow I could have really used the guppies. Will have to plan in advance for the next one. Sounds fantastic! I miss having fishy people to talk with since moving countries :/ sounds like you got some really good deals though :)

Aren't those merry widows dyed black widdow tetras though?

Nope. Phallichthys amates amates. Smallish livebearer, with a fairly high grey body and a black stripe through the eye which makes them look a bit rakish. I already had dwarf merry widows (phallichthys tico) and would have wanted the fairweatheri, was also tempted to bid on the fourth phallichthys species (quadripunctatus), but probably just as well I didn't as you have to keep them in different tanks to prevent hybridising.

Ah I see :) I've just always seen merry widdows sold as dyed black widdows :) You didn't seem the dyed fish type so I was confused :)

Yeah, I've got endlers and wild guppies, so have had to re-do the fish room and add a load to the "pretty tank" as some fry had managed to get under the glass compartment into a cory compartment, but being the paranoid girl I am, I put the whole batch in the "oo aren't they pretty fish" tank and just left them lol. Not chancing that they mixed up, so now all guppies are in one split tank and endlers in another so if they do sneek out its not a big deal as I don't have strains at the moment :)

now why didnt i see this post till today i live in northants so could have gone what a pain :(
