Long story... but I had abit of a nightmare earlier with my Eheim Pro II 2128 External. Basically I was struggling to relocate the adapter part back on to the filter canister after changing my white pad. I thought I had got it in so pushed the lever across but it wasn't in properly & thus stated to syphon water out of the pipe from the tank. (I'm not sure how it could do this if the adapter wasn't fully inserted back in the canister?)

Anyway I quickly pulled the intake pipe out of the tank before everything got too wet.. I think one of my pipes is a little short so I have since put a 1 inch block under the filter. Everything is pretty tight fit under there :/

I need to make the pipe hole alot bigger too at the back of the cabinet.

So my question is, how long is it before the filter media loses its benificial bacteria when switched off? -_-

I really dont like the way youre sockets are right nect to the intake and output of the eheim. Thats suicide. Put a splashguard up at least. You may think its a silly idea, but i know at least one person had a serious injury and burn cos the elecrtics got wet, and at least 2 more who put thier extension lead same side as thier external and one day found it in a puddle.

Spice is right, two years ago I got a small shock. Since than I tape up the remaining sockets and put a splash guard for extra protection.

Also in relation to your issue, why not just read the instruction booklet? I mean that's why they are made mate, so you can learn to use the product correctly and efficiently.

If you have and still can't work it out I suggest this "Fluval to the Rescue!"
