I have a 32 gal tank that is adiquately stocked, has been running for over 8 months.

I bought 2 Rams from my LFS about 1-1.5 months ago. They settled in perfectly and where very healthy.

I woke up this morning and one of them was dead. No signs of bloating or anything out of the ordinary.
The only thing I noticed differant in the tank were the bubble nests that my gourami's have in either corner were gone.
Levels in water changing? I don't have any water testers so cant see pH lvls etc

All my fish look fine. Including the other Ram.

Does anyone have any ideas what could have caused the death?

Cheers

id inveest in some test kits. it could well be a change in water stats like ammonia/nitrite rams are very sensitive to this.

what was your tank temp? and readings for ammonia. nitrite, nitrate, PH, KH and GH?

They already said they don't have a test kit....

To the OP: Buying a good test kit eg. API Master test kit would be a very good investment. As previously said Rams are very sensitive.
If a test kit for some reason isn't an option then try phoning around your local fish stores to find one that will do a full range set of tests, they may ask for a small fee, but some do it for free. Post the results here and I'm sure people will be able to point you in a better direction.

ps. try to do it asap whilst water conditions are still as close as to when the ram died.

but still, it could have been tested by the LFS even if they dont have one.

and the tank temp will help so please could you tell me thaT?

CHeers for the replies people.
Ill pop out tomorrow and see if I can get my hands on a decent tester kit.

truckasauras123: Tempreture is at a constant 79

Being the sensitive souls they are, it could be a number of things, or just sheer bad luck. Maybe they didnt take to the difference in ph, any trace of ammonia or nitrIte, nitrAtes too high, stress, temperature, any number of things.

Its usually a case of, if they get past the 1st 6 months in your tank, then you've cracked it, because alot of people have problems with rams.

I did about a 20% water change when I found my dead Ram the other day.

Got anAPI Masterkit and readings this morning are Ammonia, Nitrites both at 0 and Nitrates is at 15. pH = 7.5

All these readings seem fairly reasonable. Was it just bad luck?

I am planning on putting in a diy co2 kit. Can anyone advise me on anything ?(should I need advising, mylastattempt was successful butI didn't have therams in the tankat that time.)

Thanks again people!

1 of my rams passed away

the other is beautiful, been around 1 month now, fingers crossed this babe wont pass!
