anyone raise or keep freshwater shellfish in aquariums??

looks like MN has restrictions, but appears like Asian clams may be OK???

A few different types available.

that's the website I was looking at... common ones are not allowed to be shipped to MN... wondering if any / many members have tried clams in any of their tanks???

We just used freshwater mussels in our bitterling tanks. Someone would go for a walk in a local creek and find a few freshwater mussels, take them home and add them to the tank. The bitterlings would lay eggs in them and every now and then we saw baby bitterlings in the tank.

The mussels were easy to keep. Make sure the water is good and feed them several times a week with an invert food from a pet shop (designed to feed marine invertebrates). Or boiled egg yolk pushed through a handkerchief into a small container of water (some of that solution is squirted near the mussels). Or wipe the glass down with a sponge and squeeze the sponge out near the mussels.

Thanks Colin. Thanks to the power of Magum Man, I am also considering starting up a new side hustle in freshwater mussels. I have a dream of breeding bitterlings!
