I have had 3 fish die in the last month they are 1"membe deeps, at first they were in my fry tank where 2 died they just seemed to just hang at the bottom and then roll over and die with no symptoms i checked water stats no problem there then another one died so i moved them to my main tank as i could find no cause, for 2 weeks they where fine then last night one of them started to hang at the bottom corner of the tank and this morning its gone.

There are no water issues nothing new added no symptoms they were eating fine no other fish are affected, anyone got any ideas ?

I`d love to help Adam , it`s not easy diagnosing these things from my short experience in the hobby but there are some excellent people that might know more in the Tropical fish emergency section a member called Wilder is really knowledgeable and helpful.

I remember of the American members on here quickly losing some fish at first some Pim Pictus Catfish then the Mbuna very quickly, I don`t know if you recall ?

Thanks i will post in the health section, Just hope its not serious but all my fry are ok so are the adults ?

Thanks Nick

Just spoke with wilder and came to the conclusion that its a bacterial infection and recommended MYXAZIN by waterlife this stuff looks good as it can also be used to sterilize nets and stuff which is good when running several tanks.

Good hope it works.
I would of alternatively suggested the CF Emergency section aswell but some of the stuff over there isn`t available here.

How they doing.

Im leaving the meds at the mo, I have 3 wild caught females holding so i did a 30% water change yesterday and will do another in 2 days, all looks ok but there were no warning signs last time ?

Lost another one today im down to 2 from 7, just cant work it out every other fish is ok, Im thinking its more likely 1 of them is killing the others ?

Bit of a mistake there i have not lost one, I cleaned all the tank yesterday had to remove a female so all the rock came out and i must have found one of the others that died which i thought had been eaten.

It does look as if one of them is acting strange its swimming fine but when it stops it looks as if its rolling over and it looks a bit patchy could be nothing but with 4 unexplained deaths i might mean something to someone.

Water stats still fine

ph 8.2
nitrite 0.0
ammonia 0.0
nitrate 5
temp 80f

All other fish ok.

Quick edit, just checked again and it was upside down then straightened itself up again no bite marks

I agree it might be a bacterial infection. Mine happened similar to yours, perfect water conditions, then suddenly fish dying everywhere, I lost 10 altogether. Wilder found a link that seemed to explain most the their symptoms. I treated with tetracycline, and managed to save some of the fish. I've since stocked the tank back up and haven't had a problem again.

Good luck with saving your fish, I hope you don't lose anymore.

"The third type of infection produced by Aeromonas is by no means the least. This form is often the most virulent (potent) and can be rapidly fatal. This insidious form does not produce any noticeable external ulcers. The most notable feature is a behavioral change in which the infected fish generally become listless and lethargic. Some fish may lose color or appear darker. The fish do not feed, frequently seem off balance and may sink to the bottom laying on their sides. The course of the disease is rapid, and by the time the behavioral changes are noticed, the entire population of a tank may succumb, sometimes in a day or so. This is an internal infection, with the bacteria being found in the kidneys and blood of these fish. The bacteria produce potent toxins that account for the severity of the disease."
