I just purchased what I thought was 3 Julii corys yesterday. I just looked on the net now and realised they are pepper corys which can grow a lot bigger. I only have a 65l tank and they will out grow it. I purchased them in petsmart and there were two kinds in the tank (displayed with a label) Bronze and Julii.

First of all I wanted to ask, do you think they would take them back? I dont want to but I couldnt have them couped up in that tank and im sure they didnt have a sign for peppered ones in the shop.
Second off all how long do they take to grow? If they are slow growers I could get another tank, but if not they will have to go. Boo hoo there so cute!

Please help

Thanks

EDIT: Some sites say the peppered grow to 6/7 cm others say 10

I might be wrong (I usually am lol) but I think 3 peppered cories will be ok in your tank, what other tank mates have you got? Are you now over stocked?

At the moment only 5 neons, I would of liked a few more though
Just looked a the receipt it does say Juliis

Well I think your tank is big enough for 3 peppered, I've keep 3 peppered before now in a 65ltr and they've been fine. If the receipt says julis and they definately gave you peppered you are within your rights to take them back, were they any dearer? because in my lfs this weekend the julis were nearly 3 times the price of peppered. Peppered cories are lovely little things but if you did pay more I would take them back, or at least get credit for the difference. Anyway if this is your first tank you can guarantee that in the near future you will want to get a bigget one! Just ask someone with more experience what other stock you can have in your tank with the peppers and you should be fine.

Try this site to see what you can have in your tank www.thinkfish.co.uk just put in your tank size and away you go!

They were £2.50 each. I am planning on getting a bigger tank eventually

Anyone know how quick they grow?
Would that be the max number of fish in the tank 3 peppered cory and 5 neons?

Thanks

That prob about the right price for peppered, they are £2 something in my lfs or 3 for a £5, The julis were 3 for £15! Some one will reply about the growth rate and what other stock you can have. Try that site its fun and may give you some ideas.

Best of luck, oh and :hi:

Well, they're not going to grow into monster fish. My peppereds grew fairly quickly to adult size- but they're not massive. The female is just under 3 inches, the males more like 2 inches. Plenty of room in the 2 foot (70 ltr) tank they're in. They've been in there for nearly 3 years and have spawned repeatedly though I've never had any fry out of them.
The only thing to remember is they don't like their water too hot, so you'll have to keep it at the lower neon range.

I also have 3 peppered cories in my 60 litre tank, and they are doing fine. Apart from the 5 neons you could add e.g. a gourami or a pair of rams. Dwarfgourami is right about the temperature though. Corydoras julii are more appropriate for a tank with neons with temperatures between 24 and 27 degrees.

I work at Petsmart, and very soory to hear about the mistake! Secondly, Petsmart has a 14 day exchange policy on all live animals, so they'll take em back no problem so long as it's within 14days.
