OK...my female guppy is pregnant. it looks like the spike (fry's back fin) is coming out...but later it looks as if poo is coming out. its really odd! If any one can explain this that would be great! thanks...

Well normally fry just pop out quickly and the mother dont hang around, your guppy could be constapated in which case she could have trailing solid waste, other wise if it is a fry, then it is a odd case for it taking so long and plus they normally come out in a ball shape before unravelling themselves and start swimming around, never heard of them coming out straight, fin first as well

So she may be constapated. Ill give you some more info. Last week she had 2 fry, and we keep seeing something coming out of the vent, thats why i thought it couldnt be poo. I then read that fish can hold sperm, and that they will continue to have fry until the sperm is run out. So we assume that this is a fry. But last night it looked as if it was a red poo. any more help..please!

Fish and humans are quite different, so the this might not be true. :) But figured I'd gross everyone out since we're talking about births and poop. :)

With human females, a good sign that you're using the correct muscles to help push the baby out is a...bowel movement. I have no idea what point I was going to make with that... I really was going somewhere...

Anyway, I do know that I've read somewhere that fish who've eaten their young give off a pinkish poop. I wish I could remember where I read it.

Eh, guess this post wasn't going to be all that helpful. :) Good luck!

Well we did have two fry...and then didnt so they had to go somewhere. I just really hope she has the fry because my sister and I have been waiting for a few weeks now. She is very plump and her gravid spot is visible. If anyone can send me photos of their females gravid spot....guppy that is!! Thanks! :D

I can relate. :/

I have a sailfin molly. About 4 1/2 weeks ago, I introduced a new male and a new female to the tank. The male took keen interest in the existing female and they started mating almost immediately. Over the next couple of weeks, I noticed her getting a bit more plump and I can see a light grey / black spot just above her anal fin.

Her behavior has changed as well. She used to be buddy-buddy with the other female sailfin, but now, she simply chases her away anytime they get close. The possible pregnant sailfin doesn't seem to be extremely huge - compared to the look of the bellys on my Balloon Mollies, she's just got a little belly.

I thought she was pregnant, and if I calculated everything right, she should have given birth this weekend, but either I miscalculated or she's just got a tummy on her. :/

Anyway - good luck! I hope everything works out for you! Sorry I can't be of more help. :(

GOOD NEWS...she had fry!! Three...that I found! They were tiny little things. I wasnt home when it happened and they were smart and hid! Thanks to everyone that has helped...I may need help with the next litter...Talk to ya then!

:D Congratulations on the fry! Good luck!

:) Sometimes it's hard to predict their delivery. Once, I bought a very pregnant balloon molly and she delivered fry in the bag! :hyper: My female swordtail always delivers her fry in secret and so suddenly, that I've been able to only rescue one from each batch.
