Hey guys,
I had two female guppy's die the past two days  ....both were pregnant. I was wondering if it had anything to do with birth complecations? Is that possible? I have taken very good care of them and that's the only other thing I could think of. I also had a male cobra guppy that had died due to the filter I have(he died before the females)...I think he impregnated the two females that passed. Do you think they died because of him being gone...stress of him not there while they were pregnant...or simply because they missed him?
I have several other pregnant females....they have been pregnant for about 2 1/2 weeks. How long will it be before they give birth???
ALL COMMENTS APPRECIATED!!!

THANK YOU!

If more than one fish dies at a time, something is up. When people talk about stress, it's not just the type of social stresses humans face. We're talking about water conditions and tank conditions here too. You need to know what your water levels are at for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. What is your temperature? How large is the tank and what kind of aeration do you have for the tank? Is anything else in the tank? I'm not going to rule out birth complications, but that is a more unlikely culprit, especially since you had two females die and also a male.

Well the male died because of filter that I have. He was stuck on it..had I been home to notice it he would be just fine right now. I HATE that filter. As for my temp. it is around 70 degrees. The PH is normal. Everything is fine. As for other tank mates...I have an ADF. He is just fine and the guppies get along with him great. I also have 3 tiny baby snails and plant bulbs in the tank. I just think that it was pregnancy complecations because each female seemed like they had secluded themselves before they died. They each were hidden in a corner when I found them.

It's probably not your filter that killed your fish. Even the smallest of fry can generally escape filter intakes. If you're worried, toss a stocking over the end of it. I'm kind of baffled if you say your water levels are fine. Do you have the numbers on the levels? That is the only sure-fire way of reading water levels. There are always those deaths that we can't explain, but just don't assume it's that.

I think one of my girls is having pregnancy complications..well birth complications.

She still hasnt delievered her fry and looks as if she is going to explode.

I said to my hubby I think she could die from this..I just hope not.

I'm not to sure...I just took the water to get tested at a petstore and they said it was normal....(I had already tested it at my place but I wanted to verify).

To Rihannon, I hope your fish is alright! What are you feeding it? I know that if you feed your fish bloodworms they can get really fat. So you have to limit giving them certain foods. If it turns for the worst and she dies...maybe you could push the babies out...???...I dunno it's worth a shot.

I dont know what it could be then..

Maybe it was just unlucky.

I find guppies are not as hardy as what people make them out to be.

Sorry about your loss', even though they are fish, it can be really upsetting

If your guppy did die before giving birth try pushing the babies out. My teacher did it with a mosquito fish. All of a sudden the babies squirted out! They were too premature though and were already dead.

Yeah that's the same suggestion I gave to her. I hope it works out. ^_^
