Biological Warfare In The Aquarium

I've seen these for sale here in the states, in fact I slmost bought one a while back. But knowing nothing about it I asked the LFS and they didn't really know anything either, they called it a freshwater lionfish. I am glad I didn't get it then but now I may want to try them out.

While I can't offer any help or advice on the deaths in the tank, I may be able to give some information on the feeding habits of your toad.

Scott W. Michael in Reef Fishes Vol. 1 when describing the Family Batrachoidaae mentions that the

[quot] fringed lips and chins of certain toadfishes may act as lures to attract small algae-eating or shelter seeking fishes or crustaceans.[/quote].

He then goes on to describe the Barbeled Toadfish ( S. barbatus) which changes its appearance to that of a moray eel in order to snare those fish that normally follow the morays feeding off of animals flushed out by them.

this post has introduced me to a whole new aspect of fishkeeping...

if you find anything out, please, please, PLEASE update this thread.
