when i first got my tank a few years ago, it came with a biolife filter system and built in heater. the filter was good in design, however it was huge, and took up most of the 20g tank! there was lots of media in the filter including some ceramic rocks with holes in, gravel, foam sponges ( of many strains) and a trickle filter at the top which poured the water filtered through an extra fine sponge. about 2 years after i bought the setup, the filters pump broke and there was no spares available as the company had gone bust. did any body else have one of these filters and did they have any luck with them? just out of interest lol summat fishy :)

You mean the Fluval ones - if so, I've got two of them - both nearly three years old. They seem to work fine and I don't really notice how much room they take up (methinks you're exaggerating slightly here ). It irritates me, though - how difficult it is to get the motors out of their compartments.

They're made by Hagen - I don't think they've gone bust - and spares are certainly available on the internet. The motor on one of mine went last year and my lfs sold me a different Hagen one that was the same size and shape - it fitted fine.

Loads of Biolife spare available here. Though I agree - really ugly filters and take up a huge amount of room - not to mention a pain to maintain. I ripped mine out of my Tropiquarium 68 and replaced with a Eheim 2213 external :good:

ooo rite well i was told they went bust? lol well yes they are a very ugly filter and they do take up a lot of room! yeah i slightly exadurated  lol but they do when its in a 20g! anyways ive got a fluval 4 internal now :)
