Bio-spira

Yes, I use BioSpira on all of my tanks and it works wonderfully. It must be kept refrigerated until use, then you add it to the tank (some people pour it directly into the filter but I never have) and pop the fish in. Wonderful stuff!

As long as he keeps it refrigerated and it was refrigerated before it got to him, it should be fine. Its the only product that's been proven to work. The crap in bottles on shelves is just that - crap. Despite what they claim, they do not have the correct bacteria. Only BioSpira does. And it really does work. I have 15 tanks and almost all of them were started with BioSpira and I've never lost a single fish to cycling issues.

Sounds like the holy grail of fish keepers!

Could do with some right now as my fishless cycle seems to be going backwards

If only my LFS stocked it !

That's the one drawback, I think its pretty much only found in the US, although I could be wrong on that. I do know people in the UK have only been able to get it by ordering it from online stores in the US and paying a fortune for express shipping.

I've use Biospira on both my tanks and it works as advertised. I put the stuff in and then some fish in and my tank is cycled for the most part.

Even in the US they don't carry it.... Well, think about it - how many pet stores have you seen with fridges? Freezers, yeah, but not fridges.... I called everywhere within an hours drive of me (four large cities) and no one had it....

Yes they do carry it in the US, but very rarely in "pet stores." Mostly just the LFSes carry it. I get mine from our LFS all the time. If your LFS doesn't carry it, try asking them to start.
