ok I have been having issues with my tank for a while and have been doing water changes since my father in law turned off the juice to the living room to repair something, and both my hang on the back filters went bone dry.

I have been doing daily water changes but this mini cycle will not end.

I went and found bio spira and it was kept cool and all, used it on my tank and...nothing, I still have nitrites many days later.

today levels were a0/ni.25/na20-well water/ph8
29 gallon with atm 4 guppys 7 platys-1 more platy in qt cause somebody nipped her tail.

what should I do other then keep water changing, the biospira didnt work and I cant get mature filter media from anybody.

although the biospira was refigerated when you bought it, you don't know how it was kept in storage/shipping etc.

not sure there is much more you can do if you can't get mature media. Just more and more waterchanges

doesn't sound too bad at the moment though, sounds like ammonia has dropped back to zero and nitrite is very low, so you could be nearly done.

- a hint for next time, tape labels to the plugs of your filters reading "DO NOT UNPLUG!!"

thank, well I called the lfs and they told me it was odd that the biospira didnt work, because it was working for other people, they told me to do a large water change and make sure I use water conditioner, and they will give me another does of the biospira for free. thats fine and I hope it works.

it wasnt just unplugged...he flipped the breakers off for most of the house and managed to leave the living room breaker off when he left.

 I used bio-spira on my tanks and it has worked every time. I haven't had any fish die. I agree with the other person that maybe when it was shipped to the store it wasn't refrigerated which means the bacteria could have died. I would take the wrapper back where you bought it from and get a refund and see if you can buy it somewhere else. I swear by this product. Good luck! :)

Maybe I should have done that...
I tried it a couple months ago and it didn't work for me.
Everything eventually got better with some hard work and patience. :good:

Its hit and miss, personly id never recommend taking the risk with miracle formulas unless its a last resort :) it can work but its not a certainty, fishless cycling is ;)

it is a last resort as I cant do a fishless cyle...Ive had these fish for months and have no were else to go with them.

you post felt like a bit of a jab sj2k, I wouldnt be doing things unless I had no alternatives.

I had gone back to the store and they wouldnt refund my money, but gave me another bag of biospira.......
that so far hasnt worked either, so I am betting that it was damanged before they got it.

so many more weeks of daily water changes for me...fun.

perhaps you can get a refund from the manufacturer if you send them a receipt, I've talked to them before about it's use, they do stand behind their product(I have used it like 3 times before, on a new tank and, post anti-biotics)
