Hi All,

I bought a Biorb flow rectangular tank (second hand) and there is no Biorb lava rock.  I am therefore hunting for a substrate that will hold the bacteria to break down the waste ammonia etc and will be easiy to maintain (light substrate for easy gravel vacuum cleaning).
I have researched biohome, alphagrog, aqua clay and lava rock plus some others.
The biorb lava rock is not shrimp friendly and is harder to clean under I think.  i.e. is heavy for moving with vacuum and scraps the acrylic tank.
The biohome is very expensive to fill as a bottom substrate and there are no reviews on this product other than from manufacturer.
Alphagrog is cheaper but might not be shrimp friendly or easy to clean under.
Aqua clay is the cheapest but again I know little about its maintenance and lasting.

Basically, I am looking for decebnt cheap biological substrate that is easy to clean and shrimp or crabs can live on it.  In that order of priority but doesn't need to have all these qualities.
Also, it needs to be big enough to not get stuck in the biorb filter (pump area) so therefore anything not smaller than a pea size.

Thank you
