Because i studied 'domestic refuse collection' for eight years at Oxford I was able to begin a career with North Ayrshire Counsil as a bin man.
I find all sorts of crap and apart from a set of golf clubs I've never came across anything of any use but today was different.

I was sent to pick up a TV and dump it. It was a very posh area in Killwinning and when I arrived it was this huge flat screen!

I took it straqight to my house instead of dumping it since it makes my TV look like crap!

Ive taken a few picks of the back of it and hope someone has a similar one and can help me out in testing it to see if it works, people bin their old TV's because they arent HD reay so it might.

I want to try and get the relevant cables just to test it but since there is no lead or plug Im not sure what I need to get to test it before taking it in somewhere to see if it can be fixed.

Here is the TV....with my daughter.

Here are the pics of the back...anyone who can tell me where the mains attaches and what cable I need will be my best friend.
The left hand side...

The right hand side...just seems to be the AV ports...

As a bin man I can only dream of having a TV like this, please help make a smelly man very happy!

The tv looks like an oldish sony bravia from here. Most flast screen tv's use a euro or kettle lead for mains. You have a decent array of sound equipment in the background of your first picture, some of that will probably use the same connection. Have a look at either end under the bottom of the screen for the mains, possibly somewhere on the left as you look at the back of the screen.

I don't think the TV is that old, it has a HDMI connection, so if it works you can plug a HD DVD, PS3 or similar straight in at the highest quality. You also have a PC in, quake on 32 inch widescreen never looked so good. If it works you are one lucky binman!

Edit - Pity they didn't leave the wall part of the wall bracket that was fitted to those lugs at the back! I'm not really a tv geek, just I fit screens like this for a day job. Just put three 65 inch plasmas in a job recently.

Well shiver me timbers you're right, it does have a connection...here it is and it looks like the lead from my guitar amp should fit it...

Its not a SONY its a HITACHI 42PD6600...??

Ah well, the logo was a bit fuzzy, but the shape certainly looks sony. Good luck with plugging it in, hope it works!

Sadly i cant try it till next week because all my amps and leads are at the mother in laws in Glasgow but I'll update when I try it. Nice to see a fella from Shields, I grew up in Jarrow and lived in Sheilds myself for a long time, I moved to Scotland 7 years ago, my cousin has a florist shop in harton village called 'Eden'....small world eh?

Certainly is a small world, you didn't go to south tyneside college in shields about seven years back by any chance? With your musical instruments it would really be a small world if you knew Rosie and Brian!

If you can tear yourself away from your pc, or just your monitor, it probably has the same lead plugged into it, or if your kettle isn't one of these fancy ones on a flying saucer the lead plugged into that would do just to test it.

Ive never considered my kettle to be fancy until now but seemingly it is and my crappy TV just just has a lead coming straight out of it.

I almost went to south tyneside college but despite my musical interest I chose and equally useless subject to study....art!
I ended up doing graphic arts at Newcastle college but despite being a bin man my artistic abilities have not failed me. I have regular exhibitions and have made more money through commision art and selling work ive done for myself than Ive ever made empying other peoples bins.

Although I didnt go to outh Tyneside college i did have a mate who lived on readhead road, just across from the park next to the college so i drank in the County regularly....agh, the good old days.

Im 27 by the way, not sure if that makes a difference to when you were at college?

I'm 26, my music hasn't made me much if any money directly, but it is still loads of fun!

I take it your friends are musical, I just play guitar for myself and am self taught. I own a Gibson les Paul 70's original and a blonde Fender strat 70's that I got passed down from my dad and have a Gibson SG and my gibson (epiphone...) accoustic.

I played with a few bands in Newcastle where I lived for a few years, a few gigs in 'Trillions' as it was then but not really bothered in scotland.

Did you or do you play in a band?

Perhaps not a band in the same sense, I play tuba in a brass band at the moment, but I have played in rock and pop type groups from time to time. My main instrument is the drums!

An update.

I plugged it in and hey presto it works, well kinda.

The screen comes up and using the buttons underneit I can access the menu screen, I tried plugging my xbox 360 into it but it seems to have trouble recognising the source (keeps saying "no source") but I havent tried swapping it over for my other tv yet and attaching the dvd etc to it but I did manage to flick through the AV channels I think but it was a bit hit and miss and my xbox didnt appear to work.

Im going to try swapping the TV's over later on once my baby goes for a nap but since I dont have a remote for it I was wondering if I can contact HITACHI could they send me a remote or would one of thoes 'all in one' remotes work? Ive never used one you see

Okay, I tried plugging it in through my dvd player etc with the ariel and its still saying "no signal"

Ive looked through the menu but cant find any kind of tunning bit, just a bit that says "store channel"

Does anyone have the same TV that might be able to offer some advice? Even if I can just get one of the 3 AV channels working i'll be happy coz I'll just put it in my bedroom and it can be my xbox 360 TV.

Cheers

Hi, I know nothing about Tvs.

First off though, do you realize you managed to find a tv worth over 600 pounds? (i don't have those symbols on my keyboard lol)

lol Okay, so I know nothing of tvs, but I wanted to try to help you, so I did a search and found where you can download the manual for the TV online Here

If the "category" box, you put in plasma tv, then in model number, you put the model number in and it will come up with two, I think the first one that shows is yours.

Good work!

Im printing it off just now, I looked into the model on a few sites and judging by some of the reviews its a bit of a problem case and keeps going wrong but its not bad for nothing. The way i see it if i can get it working for £100 I'll be happy, even if I just get it working to play my xbox 360 I'll be happy and if the worst comes to the worst and it never works again I'll still make £150 from it...."how?" you ask...simple.

Stage a fake house move, get my video camera rolling and....action!

"be carefull with that big plasma TV....dont drop it now"

"I wont I promice...oops a daisy, Ive dropped it and its all smashed!"

Send the tape off to 'You've been framed' TV show and I'll get £150 when they show it.

Genius eh?....Im not just a hat stand folks! It will make for better viewing than the other crap they have on that show!

Try this link to get the english user guide for your tv. I had a quick look but there appears to be no troubleshooting section. Try simply plugging a phono cable between the video output on something like a dvd player and the video in, yellow phono socket on the left nearest the back of the tv. Scroll through the inputs and see if you can find the dvd player. Try and get into the menu too, this may give you more options to get the tv working.

Hope this helps.
