Hi got a 40g tank,4ft long 12 back and was wondering whats the biggest fish i could have in it,Can be a single fish but nice looking.Would like a jd or texas or gt etc.Especialy a blue jd.What can i have?

Angelfish, any smaller cichlids or dwarf cichlids such as Apistos or Rams, Checkboard Cichlid, Dwarf Cackatoo, Convicts, Firemouth, Flag Cichlid, Keyhole, Severum

I'm pretty sure a Jack Dempsey should be okay he may just squeeze in there but I think it might be 50g minimum.
A Texas Cichlid will get too big.
Green Terror might be okay also, although it might be 50g minimum agian.

Port Acara or Blue Acara
Convict (if you get 2, make sure they are the same sex or there will be nothing left of your other fish when they spawn)
Firemouth
Keyhole

There are several cichlids that are smaller than the oscars, severums, etc.

tbh i think one single Jd will be fine,

Males reach about 9-10 inches while females are normally 6-8 inches.

but thats normal Jd's blues might be smaller. but anyway good luck!

I dont think a severum should go into a 40 gallon, neither should a JD , 55 Gallon minimum is better

I'd be careful with angels in a 40 gallon, unless it's a tall 40 gallon. Angels like tall tanks, not the regular ones. I'd stick with something smaller.

I like convicts myself, but they have been known to breed like rabbits. LOL

JDs would work well. A pair would be fine. Blues are supposed to grow smaller than the normal colours, weather this is a result of hybridisation or gene pool depleation that has made them smaller im not sure. No-one actually knows where they have come from. Until I for one see photos and evidence of where they are created, I will refuse to believe the hybrid story. Blues are also more peaceful than the normal colours too.
