i have a 39gal, that i am going to restart, my uncles having the fish that are in there now, but i want to know, what is the biggest cichlid i can have in there, on its own or with another fish, i dont want any thing too big though, not oscar size, it will grow too big, could you give me some suggestions as to what i could have?

i will be getting an external filter soon, instead of what i got, so no problem with filtration, i will be having sand, some rocks and maybe some wood in the tank.

thanks :)

You could keep a single firemouth, JD, maybe a GT (depends on tank mates). Or you could keep a couple breeding pairs of rams, apistos, any other dwarf NWs. Convict could have a breeding pair but prob just one.

oh, i luv firemouths, but waht do you mean by GT, not familiar with that?

GT = Green Terror (very aggressive and why I stated depends on tank mates) prob a little small for a GT but you could have in there by himself or maybe with a couple bottom cats

I would say that its too small for a GT, or a JD,

I say , a firemouth pair, T bar pair,

There are many small to medium sized cichlids max about 6inch will be fine in your tank I think

i really like the idea of a pair of firemouths, ill have to do some research :)

Im sure you could have a firemouth pair, and prob some tankmates too....Or a pair of convicts...
If it was me though, id go for a few pairs/threes of smaller chichlids, like rams/apistos and then get a shoal or two or tetras or something....

Mikey :good:

are there any other cichlids i can maybe have?
i like the idea of firemouths, but just want to explore more ideas :p

mine :) and hes quiet large now, been moved to a VERY big tank with a massive oscar.

what are the measurements of the tank?

assuming its 3 feet long, keyholes would work.. green terrors get too big.

you could do a pair of convicts or firemouths.. pair of rainbow cichlids..

sajica cichlids.. anything that stays under about 5''.
