I recently added a new geophagus tapajo to my tank. From the word go he was rubbing and scraping against everything.

I've sat and had a good look at the tank tonight and all my other 3 geo's and my red sev have enlarged anus' and red sore, possibly swollen areas around the gills and under their chins.

All water stats are fine.

Other symptoms - plenty of juddering, quivering and the fish are now starting to look stressed

Help!

Sounds like a parasite treat with protozin. I'm not very good with diseases, did you not quarantine? Maybe get in touch with the place you bought the fish and try and find a bit of history of the fish and possible infection!

Fingers crossed for you!

I emailed wildwoods today asking about it. They said it had been the last one of that batch and had been with them on its own for quite a while. :/

I figured it would be parasites of some form. I've started to dose with sterazin as it's all I have in, although if I can get my hands on protozin tomorrow I'll do a big water change or two and start with that instead.

And yeah I did start up a quarantine tank but it's currently crawling with keyhole cichlids

Did you make a mistake with suggesting protozin? Ins't that a fungus type med thinking about it?

Best anti-fluke and general external parasite (but not white spot) treatment that I have come across (and use) is flubendazole.
MOst decent LFS will stock it, generally as a pond treatment.
Its excellent as a relatively safe, external parasite, and worming, treatment.
But DO NOT overdose it, fish wil die. Also, be aware that it does not lose potency if left for a couple of days, as with many other treatments. Only redose to take account of water that is removed from the tank.

It's really good stuff.

Also, remember that top quality water is required to go along with any treatment.
