I have a 50L aquarium.
It is currently home to a 3 balloon mollies, 2 platys and a guppy.

But in the future, when these fish die, I would like to have 2 slightly bigger fish than these...
any recommendations?

Such as 2 dwarf gouramis...

But in the future, when these fish die,

Why don't you rehome the fish you have now, rather than willing them to die.
To be fair, your not really going to get many "big" fish suitable for a 50 litre aquarium.

I'm sure two dwarf gouramis would be fine in the tank though.

two dwarf gourami is not a good idea. Two males will fight (to the death) a male and female wont work either as the male will constantly harrass the femail (most likely to death).

not sure if you could have two female, but I assume you would not be wanting the drab silver females anyway?

I thought the same when i started out. If it fits into the tank, it'll be fine.

I started in the same boat years ago with a small tank, then moved around a bit and gave up, came back, and it turns out anthing less than 3 feet long is considered a pretty small tank these days.

Keep your eyes peeled for tanks coming up in the Classifieds. Im picking up a 4 footer for £60 this evenin, much better value than buying new.

Another trick is to jump on ebay every few days, type in "Aquarium" and search for everything within however many miles of your postcode that you can travel, and select "ending soonest".

There are always loads of tanks going cheap that way. I got a 2 footer as a spare QT/Hospital tank last week for £4.20, and there was a 5 footer with stand for £100 on there the other day, i just dont have the space for it :(

Hope this helps!
