I will be getting a 55 gallon tank complete with fish tomorrow. There is a large clown loach in the tank. I would like to have live bearers in the tank but I don't know what would happen if I leave the clown loach in the tank with the live bearers. I have a pair of Plattys, one beautiful female sword (the male died two months ago) I want to get a male and another female sword tail. There is one male guppy who will soon have two new mates. I also have several fry that are about 3 months old. I would like to have a school of something, also. Will the clown loach be a problem?
I can't find a home for it, he is about 10 inches!!

I would say he is too big for the 55 gallon already and they should be kept in groups of atleast three. You should probably give it away to someone with a bigger tank. Like me. Or donate it to a good LFS.

Yes phone a good lfs and ask if they will take it off your hands as the need a 90gal tank, they will probably give you some smaller fish free.

I tried to find one. My LFS told me the fish is too big for him. I definately want to find him a home.

Advertise in a local paper, or ask lfs if you can advertise there.

OK Rachael, he is yours. Come by tomorrow about 4:00 and get him.

where are you?

I would love a 10" clown :)... and I know my local store would look after him for me until our 200gal falls into place...

That's a huge clown loach...And yes they would probably snack on your live bearers if they are that big...I've read some articles about breeding clown loaches and loaches at their max size are actually being fed large feeder gold fish.....Good Luck finding a good home for him..... :D

 I wish. Whatcha havin' for dinner? Where do you live anyway?

A 10" clown loach....... give it away....... donate to a local fish store......... I cannot believe what I am hearing. Tell you what, if it is genuinely "that big" I would be more than happy to come and get it for my 5'x3'x2'.

As for keeping them in groups I dont think this is always a good idea with botias despite what people and literature says. Even clowns can be extremely agressive... I have been the one who has had to sort the debris after the storm!

Aw, I live in Florida. You should post in the buy, sell, and swap section of this forum. I'm sure someone with a large enough tank in your area would be glad to take that monster off your hands. I know I would LOVE to have a 10 inch clown loach. Goodluck on finding someone to take him off your hands. If I lived near you, I'd be ringing your doorbell right about....now. :p
