I have a newish black swordy that is going to have babies any day now. I am planning on moving her to the birthing tank tomorrow provoded she doesn't give birth overnight. I have never had fry from a black fish before and am quite excited. I will be curious to see what colours the fry end up being since I am pretty sure she was pregnant when I got her....

YAY for fry :hyper:

It's always fun when you see fry they dont look like beige/grey blurs with eyes :p

I wish I could tell if my larger black Swordie girl is preggers! Since the male died I real could use a batch of black fry to raise a new one. Are there any real ways to tell if a blackie is going to birth soon?

If I knew I wouldn't be checking the tank for fry constantly

My girl is HUGE but doesn't seem huge enough and she is acting too normal for a fish about to give birth. Also she hasn't really "squared" up yet at the vent which tells me its a few days away yet.....as for the gravid spot, forget it :p

My black female that is looking fatter is still a lot smaller the the orange triplets but looks like she may be getting near to term.

The only way I've found to predict when the blacks are going to drop is by using a calendar after they have their first batch. Dion's sisters surprised me last week, I didn't think they were pregnant just a little pudgy but suddenly there were fry and all 3 of them were slender again.

Keep in mind that if they are young and it's their first time they may not get as fat as the older ones do.

Good luck to both of you!
