Bichir Eel Has No Interest In Food.

Any suggestions for getting my bichir/dinosaur eel to eat his food? He has shrimp pellets, just like what my boyfriend's eats and he really didn't care about them. He just swam by a few times.

I also had this problem when i got my eel at first and i was told to soak the food (beefheart), in garlic extract for a minute or two, then drop it in the tank. It stimulates the natural instincs to eat and worked great for me. Hope this helps!!!

Good Idea! Thanks! I'll try that next time I feed him. Would I just get garlic extract at the local wal mart or can i make it?

try feeding him on various types of food as some fish eat anything and some are very fussy.try catfish pellets,carnivore pellets,small prawns,mussle and cockle etc.he may not like the pellets your feeding him.how long have you owned him?what did he eat at the pet shop?

Ohh I just got him three days ago. I was going to go into the store where I got him, tomorrow after my finals and ask.

Yea bichirs can be picky..

My bichir would only eat catfish pellets for a loooong time, but now it will eat anything.

You can find it in any grocery store or most pet stores will sell it in the marine section, not sure of the name and its a bit pricier that way.

just go back to the petshop,find out what they fed him and buy some.easy. dont worry about what it eats as long as it does eat.you can wean it on to new foods in the future.

What else is in the tank with it? It can take a cpl of days for them to settle into a new tank I usually just let new bichirs alone for the first 24 hours so they can adjust-Anne

HURRAY! ANOTHER BICHIR KEEPER! As to its eating habits, mine won't touch pellets. I feed him a variety of frozen stuff (blood worms, frozen beefheart, frozen shrimp) He loves all of it. Just from personal experience, I've found that they will eat anything given enough time but they prefer frozen meaty stuff.

my 3 bichirs only eat pellets lol.they dont really like frozen.
