i've got a bi-colour blenny that i've had for half a year + and when i bought it, he had a bright orange bottom end. as time passed the orange began darkening to the brownish colour the top part of his body is. is there a reason for this (diet or whatever)?

i'm also curious as to why he eats sand. i do have some diatoms on the sand but he seems to eat so much sand that his stomach becomes all lumpy like when hippo tangs eat sand to aid in digestion. is this what the blenny is doing? or is it eating diatoms as well as a mouthful of sand?
