I am a firefighter and got called to water coming through the ceiling of a hairdressers. We went to the flat above and broke in as the owner was not there. He had a really nice 5 foot fish tank but one side of it was near an open window. He left the window open and went out. The wind blew on the curtains which in turn managed to snag on the powerhead of the external filter and point it out of the tank. The external filter then just carried on pumping all the water out of his tank and onto his floor. The inlet for his filter was very low in the tank so all that was left was some puddles with wish just managing to cling on to life.

Just be aware of that return from your filter. Accidents happen!!

Hi alexdallimore :)

I don't recall seeing this mentioned very often, but you are right. Accidents do happen.

I've had a clogged AquaClear filter overflow and continue to pump water out of the tank too. Even a couple of inches out of a 55 gallon tank can make a huge mess. :/

one of my fish once knocked the spray bar on my filter so it was pointing vertically up and out my tank instead of horizontal.

good job i was here even if i was in bed asleep at the time.

jus woke up to being rained on lol.
