I am planning on breeding these to in the future once Brutus gets settled in.
He is a SD and shes a VT as far as I know. I have another female I will be receiving on Wednesday so I might end up breeding her with him, but I'm not sure yet because I love my Betty.

are you ready to have approx 100 small jars all over the place?
they have fin burn too i think. I would let them heal first, but they are both beautiful

yup i already got the jars n stuff

ive had her for about 1 yr so she shouldnt have anything wrong but he i just got yesterday so i will deff wait a few months b4 i better prepare

cool! those to are a great couple! i am sure the fry will be just amazing!

great match :good:

plus i just got 4 new males and a new female imbellis (i think) today so the'll be plenty of match ups between all of em now

turns out my newer female is a wild splenden female so im contemplating breeding her with brutus
any thoughts?

nothing
shes just a bit older and im afraid the spawning might be her end lol
i love her too much

what about putting both females in there and letting him make his choice?

That could be a possibility but if you sincerely love Betty then I wouldn't risk it. I know she is a perfect match for Brutus but your new female may also be. :)

Have you got a photo of the new one?

She looks like she is full of roe ready to breed :)

What are your plans for the babies once they're born? Do you want to show? Do you want to improve the species in some way? Breeding is fun to think about, but take it from someone who has bred in the past, it takes A LOT of money (like $1,000+ to do it properly) and A LOT of time, if you don't have a few hours a day dedicated to water changes, setting up live food cultures, ect. then don't even try.

I am not trying to talk you out of it but I think you need to think about what you may be getting yourself in to. Do you have live food cultures for the fry to eat? They need live food until they're about 10-12 weeks old, so you need to get your hands on cultures of vinegar eels or microworms (or both) and baby brine shimp.

You need a 5-10 gallon for breeding and a 20+ gallon growout tank to transfer the fry into when they are about 5-6 weeks old. You need to be able to jar 100+ juveniles if the need arises, and be able to keep them warm, and do DAILY water changes on their jars.

As for the pair you have pictured, the male appears to possibly have fun rot. And the females fins look odd, like they've been kind of "melted together" Which can be a sypmtom of ammonia poisoning. What size tank is she in and how often do you perform water changes on it?

my male looks a lot better now from when i first got him
unfortunately betty seems to be getting old really fast since she is quite old for a betta at about 2.5 lol
betty is in a 5.5 gal that i do about 20% water change every 3-5 days
i have an entire fish room set up for jars tanks and heat
with plenty of extra room for more fish
and luckily i have become friends with my LFS and he has live cultures of everything you could think of lol
and with the recent passing of my uncle i have inherited many more supplies than i even need

plus i went to the store and got 3 new bettas today so im thinking about putting all three in there with him at some point

trust me i have done my research before jumping into this venture

im going to take pictures of the new females and perhaps some of my other males right now so i can post them asap

Looking forward to the photos! :D

I'm sure you know what you're doing so I'll not question your decision of putting 4 males together, even if it sounds disastrous.

I'm also sorry to hear about your uncle... :/

hahaha no no no i dont have 4 males together
i have females together
the males are all in seperate tanks lol
