Hey Amber, I really don't wanna bust your bubles but from your sig it show's that you only have 1 Discus. These are shoaling fish and would prefer being in a group of 6, but I think 3 is okay if your short of space and cash. I think you should try to purchase at least 2 more so that th PB won't be scared cause if he does he won't eat and would hide in a corner and would eventually die. Make sure that you get Discus in a good source(a breeder would be the best) as i find especially in my area that Discus sold in LFS are sick and not in a very good condition. I had 3 that died and the ones i have now is from a breeder in my area and is disease free..Anyways good luck with them as they are the best FW fish you can have...
Thanks everyone!! I know.. I love my ram too.. thats why I had to add him in there.. his girlfriend is gorgeous as well
G_Sharky.. your not busting my bubble. I did not just 'purchase' a discus. I have spent WEEKS researching them. I have bought magazines with profiles and have read so many posts and websites about them its not even funny. I NEVER buy a fish without knowing about them first. In my research.. I found out that you should keep either one (in a community tank) or many, but never just two. I read that the two will fight by themselves unless a mating pair. My discus is actually doing wonderfully today. It swims around with my rams and the tetras. It doesn't mind me coming up to the tank and doesn't even care about the quick movements of my two year old daughter running up to the tank and smacking her hands against it (which I AM trying to correct that behavior.. but shes two and it takes time.. I dont ALLOW my daughter to do this just for your info.) But I still take it as a good sign that the discus does not mind when she does this. I will be getting more tetras and that is all. I have reasons for this. But I love my fish VERY much and would not get the discus if it would die all by itself (especially for that price.)
As for my LFS. This is a privately owned pet store. The woman who owns it works there every day. I have gotten to know her quite well. We talk fish constantly. She gets in very good quality fish from local breeders. I bought my rams from her as well. She takes GOOD care of her fish, her tanks are completely algae free and immaculate!!! So I am in NO way worried about the fish I buy from her. Thank you for your warnings tho.
