Has anyone modified the filter media they use in their Whisper? I use a Whisper 10 in my seven gallon betta/ADF/shimp tank, and I like that it's quiet and has a slow current.
I just can't stand the bags that are sold for the thing. It seems like they crumble apart in a little over a month (though the snails are out of there, so I'm not rinsing it off as much anymore). I'm having to change them because they develope holes or let the carbon loose.
I was thinking of getting a foam insert, slicing it in half longways, and using that instead, but I would also like to use carbon as well. If I get one of those micro-pore filter bags, and fill that with activated carbon, will that work? Or do you think it would plug up the filter too much? I've already had issues with the water falling back over where the input hose is.
Input, as always, is appreciated!
